Fairmail

All photos on Fairmail cards are taken by Peruvian underprivileged teenagers. On the back of the cards you see the face, name and age of the photographer. The teenagers FairMail selects lives in relatively poor circumstances. Some of them live in Mundo de Ninos, a boy´s home for street children. Others live in one of the poorest parts of Trujillo and they (or their families) earn money by recycling garbage at the city garbage dump. Most children of these recycling families help their parents searching the dump for materials to sell. The organization YMCA (www.ymcaperu.org) runs an educational centre near the dump to stimulate children, teenagers and their parents to go to school and develop themselves. This centre is one of the places where Fairmail finds teenagers to participate in Fairmail, selecting them on motivation, punctuality and talent for photography.

Fairmail offers the young people photography training, part-time work and guidance in making their own future plans. The teenagers receive 50 % of the profits from the sale of their own cards to finance their education.
